What legal practice area(s) do you primarily focus on?
Criminal and Immigration
Where did you attend law school, and when did you graduate?
University of Detroit – Mercy, 2016
What has been the biggest accomplishment/victory in your legal career?
My biggest victory was helping reunite a family after they had tried with two different lawyers. The head of the household, who had a green card, was unjustly deported for missing an immigration appointment 25 years ago. After they retained me, the head of the household was back in the U.S. with his green card in less than a year.
Describe the biggest challenge you’ve had to face in your legal career.
The biggest challenge I have had to face in my legal career are the racial prejudices that I still experience in the workplace. I have to deal with court personnel calling me by a different Spanish name or asking if I am the interpreter.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a psychologist or a counselor. I have always had a passion for helping people in whatever capacity I can.
What word would you use to describe yourself?
What is your favorite quote?
One day at a time, one step at a time.
What’s a great book you read recently?
The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio
If you could time travel, where would you go?
The 1800s or early 1900s, so I could look cool wearing a top hat.
